Four days in Komodo, with Rangko Cave on the last morning

Everything the three-day route covers, plus a fourth day worked close to Labuan Bajo: the limestone cave pool at Rangko, the house reef at Seraya, and the schedule room to go back to the mantas if the first drift was quiet.

The difference

Three stops you only get on day four

The fourth day works the water closer to Labuan Bajo, which is why it can be added without a long overnight passage.

Late morning

Rangko Cave

A limestone cavern on the Flores mainland north of Labuan Bajo holding a saltwater pool. Short tender ride and a walk in; the light shaft through the roof is the whole point, so the timing is set for it.

Seraya Island

A small island with a shallow house reef, used as a slow snorkel and beach stop rather than another trek.

Sabolo or Bidadari

Two near-harbour islands with easy reef access. Which one you get depends on conditions and on how the crew has timed your return.

The 4 days 3 nights Komodo liveaboard is the 3D2N route with a fourth day added on the Labuan Bajo side of the park: Rangko Cave, Seraya Island and either Sabolo or Bidadari. Private whole-boat charter is IDR 157,000,000 for one to ten guests, IDR 165,000,000 for 11 to 20, and IDR 7,000,000 per additional guest. That extra night is what turns a rushed highlight reel into a trip with slack in it – a second shot at Manta Point if the current is wrong, and a morning that is not spent sailing home. Park fees are extra.

What the fourth day adds

Days one to three follow the standard route: Kelor, Manjarite and Kalong; then Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Manta Point and Taka Makassar; then Siaba and Sebayur. The fourth day works the water closer to Labuan Bajo, which is why it is possible to add without a long overnight passage.

  • Rangko Cave – a limestone cavern on the Flores mainland north of Labuan Bajo holding a saltwater pool. Reached by a short tender ride and a walk; the light shaft through the roof is the whole point, so timing is set for late morning.
  • Seraya Island – a small island with a shallow house reef, used as an unhurried snorkel and beach stop rather than another trek.
  • Sabolo or Bidadari – two near-harbour islands with easy reef access. Which one you get depends on conditions and on how the crew has timed your return.

Why the extra night buys better wildlife odds

Manta encounters at Karang Makassar depend on current and feeding activity on the day, not on the season alone. Reef mantas are present year-round, with sightings peaking roughly December to March and a second strong window from May to September when visibility is at its best – 20-30 metres or more in the dry season against 10-15 metres in the wet. On a three-day trip you get one attempt at the site. On a four-day trip the crew has the schedule room to return the following morning if the first drift was murky or the current was running wrong.

The same logic applies to Padar. A cloudy sunrise on day two is simply a cloudy sunrise on a 3D2N trip. With a fourth day in hand there is occasionally scope to reshuffle. Nobody can promise weather – what a longer charter buys is optionality.

Reef mantas are present year-round at Karang Makassar. What changes with a fourth day is the number of attempts the crew can make at the site.

Per night, the four-day charter is the cheapest of the three: roughly IDR 52,300,000 a night against IDR 61,500,000 for the three-day and IDR 94,000,000 for the single night. The fixed costs of provisioning, crew and getting the boat out of the harbour do not change with duration, so length is where the value sits. The short version is on the 2D1N private charter page and the standard trip on the 3D2N itinerary page.

The vessel

Four days is long enough that the boat itself starts to matter more than the schedule. Lady Grace is 34 metres with a 6.3-metre beam, built in ironwood and teak, carrying twelve tonnes of freshwater and five tonnes of fuel – the endurance figures that make a four-day itinerary comfortable rather than rationed.

Who books four days

  • Groups and families where cost per head over four days beats three days on a smaller boat – the numbers are worked through on the group and family charter page.
  • Snorkellers who want unhurried water time rather than a landing every two hours – see the snorkelling and diving page for what is and is not on board.
  • Anyone flying in from Europe or the Americas, where the extra night absorbs jet lag on day one instead of losing you the Padar sunrise.

Charter mechanics and custom itinerary requests are covered on the private phinisi charter page and the tour overview sits at Komodo boat tours and private charters. If your dates are taken, the wider Labuan Bajo liveaboard lineup offers alternatives on the same route.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a 4 days 3 nights Komodo liveaboard on Lady Grace?

Private whole-boat charter is IDR 157,000,000 for one to ten guests and IDR 165,000,000 for 11 to 20, with each additional guest at IDR 7,000,000. Komodo National Park fees are separate. Rates published 31 July 2026.

What does day four cover?

Rangko Cave on the Flores mainland, Seraya Island, and either Sabolo or Bidadari depending on conditions, before returning to Labuan Bajo harbour around midday.

Is 4D3N better value than 3D2N?

Per night, yes. The four-day charter works out at roughly IDR 52,300,000 a night against IDR 61,500,000 for the three-day, because provisioning and crew costs are largely fixed.

Can I do a 4D3N as an open trip rather than a charter?

The published open-trip cabin rates cover the 3D2N departure. Ask the booking desk whether a four-day open trip is running in your travel window before planning around it.

Will I definitely see manta rays over four days?

No operator can guarantee wildlife. Reef mantas are at Karang Makassar year-round with sightings peaking around December to March and a strong May-to-September window, and four days gives the crew room for a second attempt if the current is wrong on the first.

Is Rangko Cave suitable for children?

It involves a tender ride, a short walk and a swim in a natural saltwater pool. Confident swimmers manage it easily; discuss younger children with the desk so the crew can plan supervision.

How far in advance should I book four days?

Four-day departures are usually arranged as charters rather than fixed weekly blocks, so the earlier you enquire the more calendar the desk has to work with – especially June to September.

What happens if the weather turns?

The captain reorders the route to keep the boat in sheltered water. That is the practical advantage of a longer itinerary: sites get moved rather than cut.

Book the four-day route

Four-day departures are fewer than three-day ones and the fourth day is the first thing to go when a charter group takes the boat. Send your window and the desk will tell you what is actually open.
