Twenty-plus guests on one phinisi

Ten en-suite cabins, one table, one deck and a boat price rather than twenty separate fares. At twenty guests a 3D2N charter works out around IDR 6,450,000 a head — below the cheapest open-trip cabin.

The maths

Why a group charters instead of buying cabins

A charter is priced by the boat. Past about eight guests it stops being the expensive option and starts being the cheap one.

Lady Grace is one of the larger phinisi working Komodo National Park: ten cabins, 22-24 guests, which is well above the four-to-eight cabins typical of boutique charter phinisi. For groups that is the whole point. Whole-boat rates for 11 to 20 guests are IDR 100,000,000 (2D1N), IDR 129,000,000 (3D2N) and IDR 165,000,000 (4D3N), with additional guests at IDR 4,000,000, IDR 5,500,000 and IDR 7,000,000 respectively. At twenty guests on a three-day charter that is about IDR 6,450,000 per person before park fees.

Cost per head: the real reason groups charter

Buy cabins individually on an open trip and you pay per person at grade rates. Charter the boat and you pay once, then divide. The crossover point sits somewhere around eight to ten guests, and past that the charter wins decisively.

Cost per guest at published whole-boat rates, 31 July 2026. Park fees, flights, beverages and gratuities are separate.

24 (20 + 4 additional)IDR 4,833,333 ppIDR 6,333,333 ppIDR 8,041,667 pp

Compare that with the open-trip cabin rates: a Deluxe cabin on the 3D2N is IDR 5,750,000 per person and a Suite is IDR 8,500,000. A twenty-guest charter of the same itinerary lands at about IDR 6,450,000 per head – between the two grades, but with every cabin, the sundeck and the schedule belonging to your group.

Allocation

Ten cabins to divide up

On a charter you are not buying these per-person rates — they are shown so you can see how the ten rooms differ before you decide who gets which.

Cabin allocation for a mixed group

Ten cabins in five grades gives a group real flexibility. A workable pattern for an extended family or a company trip:

Suggested allocation across the ten cabins. Extra beds are available in Suite and Grand Deluxe grades at IDR 5,000,000 each on open-trip terms.
Cabin gradeCabinsBedTypical allocation
Suite Ocean View2DoubleThe couples paying the premium, or the grandparents
Junior Suite Ocean View1DoubleA second couple
Grand Deluxe Ocean View2DoubleCouples who want the view without the balcony
Deluxe4DoubleThe volume grade – couples, or two friends sharing
Superior1-2Bunk bedOlder children, teenagers, staff or crew of the group

One honest caveat. The operator’s published specification lists a single bunk-bed Superior cabin while the cabin section lists two. If Superior berths matter to your group, ask the booking desk to confirm the exact count for your departure before you commit.

Every cabin has a private bathroom and air conditioning, which matters more with twenty people on board than with six – nobody is queueing. Grade detail is on the cabin options page and the bunk-bed grade specifically on the Superior cabin page.

Guests walking on a white sand beach after coming ashore from a liveaboard tender
Beach and reef stops work for every age. The two treks — Padar at dawn and the ranger-led dragon walk — are the ones to plan a group around.

Children, treks and the practical bits

  • Padar is a stepped climb of roughly 30-45 minutes starting at 06:00. Most children over about eight manage it; younger ones can stay on board with an adult, which is easier on a charter because nobody else is waiting.
  • Komodo Island dragon trekking is ranger-led and rangers set group sizes and distance rules. The ranger fee is charged per group of up to five, so a large party is split into several ranger groups.
  • Snorkelling ranges from sheltered (Manjarite, Sebayur, Siaba) to current-driven (Manta Point). Life vests are provided for everyone. With a mixed-ability group the crew can run the tender alongside so weaker swimmers stay near the boat.
  • Meals are all prepared on board and included. Give the desk dietary requirements at booking, not on the morning of departure.

Park fees for a group

Park charges are per person and per group depending on the item, and they are collected outside your charter price.

Komodo National Park charges for foreign visitors, documented 31 July 2026. Ranges, not fixed quotes.

Bundled ticket including RincaIDR 900,000 per personThree-island version
Diver surchargeIDR 25,000 per dayApplies to certified diving activity

The ranger trekking fees are the ones groups misread: they are charged per group of up to five, not per person, so a party of twenty pays four ranger groups on Komodo and four on Padar. A realistic all-in park budget for a foreign guest on a 3D2N itinerary is IDR 550,000 to IDR 900,000. Amounts are government-set and change without notice.

Which duration for a group

Groups almost always do better on the longer itineraries – the boat price rises less than proportionally with each night, and larger parties move more slowly through every landing. The four-day route with Rangko Cave is on the 4D3N page; the compressed one-night version, which suits corporate groups on a tight agenda, is on the 2D1N charter page; and the standard route with the full hour-by-hour timetable is on the 3D2N itinerary page. General charter mechanics sit on the private phinisi charter page. Groups too large for one hull are handled by the operator’s Labuan Bajo booking team, who can run two boats in convoy.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

How many guests can Lady Grace take?

Ten cabins with a stated capacity of 22-24 guests. Every cabin has a private bathroom and air conditioning.

What does a group charter cost per person?

At published rates: about IDR 6,450,000 per person for twenty guests on a 3D2N charter, IDR 8,062,500 for sixteen and IDR 10,750,000 for twelve. Park fees, flights and beverages are separate.

At what group size does chartering beat buying cabins?

Roughly eight to ten guests. Below that, per-person open-trip rates are usually cheaper; above it the flat whole-boat price wins, and the gap widens with every extra guest.

Can we bring more than twenty guests?

Yes, up to the vessel capacity of 22-24. Guests beyond twenty are charged at IDR 4,000,000 (2D1N), IDR 5,500,000 (3D2N) or IDR 7,000,000 (4D3N) each.

Are the treks suitable for children?

Padar is a stepped 30-45 minute climb from 06:00 and suits most children over about eight. Komodo Island trekking is ranger-led with rules on group size and distance. Younger children can stay on board with an adult.

How are ranger fees charged for a large group?

Per group of up to five people – documented 2026 figures are IDR 200,000 for Komodo or Rinca and IDR 150,000 for Padar. A party of twenty therefore pays four ranger groups at each site.

Can we split the group across two boats?

Yes. Ask the operator’s Labuan Bajo team about running a second vessel alongside Lady Grace on the same itinerary.
